Course Details: A supreme test of fitness ! Participants will complete a 6ish mile gruelling cross country course interspersed with ten different tests of strength, endurance and co-ordination.
This is a different course to the Mud Runner cross country held in the autumn and as it is held in May, we cannot guarantee it will be muddy, however, competitors will need to be able to swim ! (well, to be honest you won't need to swim very far - 30-50 meters, and there will be lots of ropes for you to pull yourself along with if you don't really fancy a paddle).
The Tests: The fitness tests will be spaced across the whole course (about one every kilometre) and include obstacles to climb, up, over, round, under, swim and through.
The Finish: as with all events, there will of course be a sting in the tail, of course you will have to finish the course and earn your right to suffer the last few yards.
Time: Oblivion will start at 11.00am. Dependent on how confident you are with the wonders of the british transport system you will want to allow yourself plenty of time to get to the site, sort your kit out, make frequent trips to the toilet, retie your laces and go through your absurd (they are not cute or lucky) pre-race rituals before getting to the start. The gun (well something that goes bang) will go for the start at 11am, best make sure you are there.
Changing: There is a small changing area. Probably best to arrive in your running clothes and bring a warm, dry change of clothes to get into afterwards.
Timing & Results: There will be a race clock at the start/finish line. Results will be posted onto www.mudrunner.co.uk on Monday 30th April.
Race Photography: Race pictures will be available to view and purchase after the event.
First Aid: Medical support will be present on the course and at the finish. You should be relatively fit and have no known medical conditions. If you do want tea and sympathy, Limby is always available for a chat.
Toilets: Toilet facilities are available at the start and finish. The Eastnor Estate is a wonderfully well maintained estate with SSSI areas (SSSI means - site of special scientific interest - I think!) so please be respectful of this it is definitely not a 5,000 acre toilet or rubbish tip and so please don't treat it as such.
Water: One drinks‘ station will be at about the halfway point and another at the finish. You might want to bring your own water to consume beforehand (or whatever electrolyte laden snake oil gives you that awesome cutting edge above your nearest rival)
Goody Bag: An event goody bag will be handed out close to the finish funnel. This will include your special souvenir Oblivion tee shirt and some other goodies!
Prizes: The first 5 men & first 5 women across the line will be awarded prizes on the day at the venue.
There will also be awards for the first male 'veteran' in the over 40; over 50 and over 60 age groups and first female 'veteran' in the Over 40; over 50 and over 60 age groups.
Team Prizes: There are team prizes for the fastest male, female and mixed team (minimum team size 3). As with many adventure races and to give you a chance to chat on the way round teams entering will need to complete the course together and the time will be taken on the last member of the team to cross. As you have entered as a team, take time to help your other team members through some of the harder tests, or alternatively, just speed off and leave them to suffer, the choice is yours.
Refreshments: The obligatory dirty burgers, greasy dogs and tea/coffee will be available to purchase at hopefully less than the "how much ?" prices usually charged
Accommodation: There are lots of hotels in Tewkesbury about 15-20 minutes away. Herefordshire Tourist information will have details of what is available
Camping: Mud Runner participants and their family / supporters are welcome to camp for free in the Deer Park next to the start line. Facilities are basic - toilets and water - but the setting is fantastic and it is just a short walk to the start line.
